Croc Trophy Mountain Bike Race

The Croc Trophy race attracts some of the toughest mountain bike riders from around the world. It's progress is tracked by thousands of enthusiasts the world over. Competing in this year's race is former Tour de France stage winner, Jaan Kirsipuu and 2002 Austrian road race champion Rene Haselbacher.

The 98km race starts in Cairns today taking competitors through the city, up to Copperlode Dam and eventually to Lake Tinaroo. The race then heads west before tracking north to Cooktown and down to Cape Tribulation. The last stage of the race features a 38km time-trial before finishing at Cape Tribulation on October 28.

The winner of last year's Croc Trophy, Urs Huber is here again this year to defend his title to see if he can win back to back Croc Trophies.

The cyclists met yesterday on The Esplanade for the official opening ceremony.
